Abstract

Ontario, along with the rest of the world, has entered into a new era of energy transition. Ontario faces a projected 75% increase to its electricity demand by the year 2050 (Ontario Newsroom, 2024). This demand is projected to continue to grow beyond this, due to rapid industrial electrification, population growth, and the ever increasing utilization of electricity in our modern society. Meanwhile, governments across the world face societal pressure to decarbonize their electricity grids, while ensuring long term sustainable energy reliability.
