About the Journal

The Waterloo Historical Review, an annual journal, is a unique initiative conceived, written, edited, and published by students at the University of Waterloo. It serves as a platform to highlight and disseminate the scholarly work of undergraduate and graduate History students, offering them an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to historical research.

We are now accepting submissions for our upcoming 12th Edition.

We seek high-quality, original research papers, scholarly articles, case studies, literature reviews, and book reviews that contribute to new and unique historical scholarship. We particularly encourage submissions featuring primary research and innovative historical analysis from undergraduate students and graduate students alike!

SUBMISSIONS DUE: MAY 30th, 2025

Submission Guidelines:

We welcome submissions on any historical topic, including but not limited to:

  • Political, social, and cultural histories
  • Historiography and historical methodology
  • Transnational and global histories
  • Public history and memory studies
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to history

Submissions should follow the latest Chicago Style of Citation. Manuscripts are to be submitted as Word documents (.doc or .docx). Details on submission categories, requirements and details can all be found in the official Call for Submissions announcement!
