Abstract

The IT@School project for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enabled education in Kerala, India, gave women unprecedented entry into ICT by virtue of the fact that women constitute a majority of the teachers in the state. It went beyond ICT awareness to build special technical skills and leadership capacity in the teachers. But the fact that the project does not have a gender perspective in its design, governance or implementation poses several challenges for the women who are involved in the project.
