Spiders in the Net: Universities as Facilitators of Community-based Learning

This paper explores the importance of universities in the knowledge society beyond their traditional role in research and education. It argues that, especially in the fields of applied sciences and engineering, they have the potential to exploit local knowledge and provide opportunities for students to become lifelong learners.
